Few weeks ago, Microsoft held Joomla! Day 2012 in New York City. The even saw hundreds of people from the international Joomla community converge on New York City to check out a preview of Joomla 3.0.
Paul Orwig, the president of Open Source matters, was present to give a keynote speech, and also to explain what’s new in Joomla 3.0 ahead of its launch on September 27th.
The second day of the conference focused on the technical side of things, with Microsoft Developer Evangelist Peter Laudati giving a talk about why Open Source projects are so important, and why Microsoft has decided to work with Joomla so closely.
Joomla! Day had four tracks, a Joomla Core track which was aimed at newcomers to the CMS, a developer track, a component track, and a template track. There were speakers in attendance from the New York City Joomla User Group, as well as experts brought in from all over the world.
It’s nice to see Microsoft choosing to support open source software. Joomla currently powers around 3% of the web, which is pretty impressive when you think about the number of websites out there. Companies that make use of Joomla include Citibank, General Electric, eBay, Ikea, and even Harvard University. Will your site be joining the list of Joomla users?
